Recommendations for Camping Safely in the Alaskan Wilderness

Are you making plans for a summer camping vacation in the Alaskan wilderness? While camping is fun and relaxing, you also need to make sure you and your family stay safe. At Amazing Accommodations Alaska, we offer these four recommendations for having an exciting and safe camping vacation.

Recommendations for Camping Safely in the Alaskan Wilderness

1. Plan Your Trip

When planning your trip, be sure to prepare accordingly. Are you planning on doing some sight-seeing? If so, pack a camera so you can capture images of the majestic views and local wildlife. Do you want to go hiking? If so, be sure to bring along a sturdy pair of hiking shoes, plenty of canteens or water bottles, and, of course, some powerful bug spray.

2. Check the Weather

You don’t want to get caught in a downpour or a thunderstorm unexpectedly. Check the weather forecast either before or at the start of your trip. If rain is predicted for any of the days you’re camping, you can either shorten up your trip or extend it a couple of days, depending on your preference.

3. Bring a First Aid Kit

It’s always a good idea to bring along a first aid kit whenever you take a road trip of any kind, especially if you’re camping. A few items you’ll want to include are:

  • Bandaids and antibiotic ointment
  • Gauze pads
  • Hydrogen peroxide and cotton balls
  • Acetaminophen or ibuprofen
  • Ice packs
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray

4. Watch Wildlife from a Distance

Alaska boasts some amazing wildlife, including bears, caribou, moose, mountain goats, bison, eagles, whales, and so much more. The best way to enjoy these beautiful creatures is to watch them from a safe distance. Be sure to bring along a camera so you can take pictures to remember your Alaskan camping trip for years to come.
