3 Things to Do in Hatcher Pass on Your Next RV Trip

1. Gold Mint Trail

Gold Mint Trail is a 13.4-mile trail that follows the Little Susitna River for most of its length. Park your camper van and get ready for a day of hiking. Pack a picnic lunch and stop for your meal and a break at one of the many available picnic tables and fire pits. This trail is fairly easy until you get toward the end when you’ll begin a steep climb where you’ll discover breathtaking views over a glacier-rimmed valley.

2. Independence Gold Mine

This abandoned gold mine used to be one of Alaska’s top-producing mines until the onset of World War II. Now it’s a historical and natural resource attraction with a trail that is just about a half-mile long. It winds through relics and artifacts from its mining days in the early 1900s. Along the short trail, you’ll view the majestic Talkeetna Mountains and their remarkable lower valleys. During the winter season, many people enjoy skiing or snowshoeing on the trail.

3. Government Peak Trail

Government Peak Recreation Area features both summer and winter trails. Regardless of which time of year you visit, you’ll be able to experience the alluring beauty this trail has to offer. There are 4.5 miles of winter trails that are all well-lit. You can even rent gear like snowshoes or cross-country skis. During the summer, these trails are used by bikers and hikers.
